Celebrating Women's HERstory!

March is Women's History Month! In recognition of that   youth court members learned about different influential woman known and not so known. To educate the youth court members, the staff placed pictures of influential women past and present along the walls of the youth court room. The members then walked around the room and looked at the pictures and information provided. Once they were done, we had a discussion on what they learned from the photos and information provided. As a bonus, we also asked the members to share who was an influential woman that they knew personally.  We heard everything from teachers, mothers, sisters and grand mothers. It was wonderful to hear the great stories and reasons why they found these women influential.     Stay Tuned for our upcoming Earth Day Event in April!

Socks for the Sole

Throughout the months of January and February with the help of Justice Center staff, members of the Red Hook Youth Court created sock bundles for those in need. The bundles consisted of brand new pairs of socks stuffed with snacks such as granola bars and cookies. On March 3 rd the members donated the sock bundles to the Food First pantry located in Red Hook, Brooklyn.    This winter season weather has been pretty rough and the youth court members wanted to give back in a unique way. The staff at Food First were very appreciative of our donation and the members were happy to be able to help in a small way. The flyer that got us the donations! The Chef at Food First, humbling accepting out donations.                                  This was a great way to begin this month, so please stay tuned for what else we have coming down the pike!
